Saturday 8th September saw 7 WFFC athletes and 1 referee take the stage at the GB Cadet Nationals in Nottingham.

David was one of the invited foil referees.

Fiona and Hannah competed in women’s foil, Fiona was ranked 35th after the poule with 2 victories, she then overturned seeding against the 39th seed in the last 64 round, in the last 32 round she lost to the eventual 9th placed fencers to finish 28th overall.

Hannah had a tough day at the office and did not make the cut, however she lost 3 fight in the poule 5/4 and one 5/3 so she showed that she is not far off the standard needed to go mfurther in these events. Hannah finished 54th overall.

In the women’s epee Emma and Dana competed. Emma won 1 fight in the poule but this wasn’t enough to see her through to the DE rounds and she finished 45th overall. Dana won 2 fights and was seeded 27th after the poule she met Rayhana Larbi in the 64 losing 13/8 to finish 33rd.

Gabe, Rhys and Eddie took part in the cadet mens’ foil event. The standard was very high and Eddie and Gabe unfortunately failed to make the cut this time finishing 66th and 57th respectively. Rhys won 5 of 6 poule fights and was seeded 11th after the poule. He fenced 56th seed Oliver Richardson in the last 64 winning 15/9 then met 43rd seed Maxwell Jones in the last 32 beating him 15/10, in the last 16 Rhys’s journey ended as he met the eventual Silver medallist Harry Gray losing 15/11. Rhys finished 13th overall.
